Mission:
Whatcom County Council on Aging provides nutritional, social, recreational, and educational programs that promote wellness of mind and body for community members as they age.
Vision:
As people age, they are empowered and cared for as valued members of our community.
Values:
Whatcom County Council on Aging engages in partnerships with agencies and community groups that support the values of Accessibility, Connectedness, Involvement, Independence, Personal Responsibility and Health. Therefore:
- We believe all seniors in our community must have access to decent and affordable housing, food, health care, and programs that support wellness of mind and body.
- We believe seniors can easily become isolated as they age, negatively impacting overall health; senior centers, programs, and outreach help people stay connected with others.
- We believe active involvement in civic and community life creates vitality and meaning for people of all ages; we therefore value the contribution of seniors and of seniors-to-be.
- We believe people should be supported in maintaining self-determination and independence in their lives and in their homes for as long as possible.
- We believe while it is the community’s responsibility to provide services and opportunities for seniors, it is each person’s own responsibility to choose how they will live their life.
- We believe maintaining good physical and mental health through proper nutrition, exercise and other activities are important for everyone, and especially critical as we enter our senior years.
