Whatcom Council on Aging

The Whatcom Council on Aging (WCOA) has been serving seniors in our community since 1964.  We are an independent non-profit organization supported by donations from local businesses and community members, limited federal funding and grants.  Founding board members were part of the nation-wide effort to pass the Older Americans Act in 1965.

We operate five programs:

Let’s talk about it!  Planning your legacy and healthcare before something happens can give you peace of mind for not only you but your loved ones as well. The Bellingham Senior Activity Center will host What’s Next: Planning Ahead – Making Choices for Your Legacy & Health Care on Wednesday, August 22 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. In conjunction with PeaceHealth, Riverstyx Foundation, WAHA, and Northwest Regional Council, this informative fair is free to attend and open to the entire community.

Throughout the day, we will be hosting various presentations on palliative care, advanced directives, family conversations, wills and legal issues, and end of life choices. An addition, we will be hosting a workshop following the presentation of advanced directives for participants who want assistance with document completion. We will be filling our lobby and coffee bar area with vendor tables of various organizations and services in the community that assist with end of life planning. Our goal is for people to receive as much information to begin “planning ahead” and have peace of mind for not only themselves, but their families and loved ones as well.
